You might recognize Officer Dan Thomas from one of the many social media posts, as he is always out and about with our little Bobcats as the School Resource Officer (SRO) assigned to Moore Middle School.
Where are you from originally? What brought you to Celina?
I'm originally from the Plano and Richardson area. I found my way to Celina because of the great community here.
What was the motivation behind becoming a law enforcement officer?
I have always been able to help others in the community as a civilian, but becoming a police officer gives me the ability to help others in a different capacity, by placing me into situations that I am not able to normally assist as a regular citizen.
It’s lunch time in Celina, and you haven’t eaten. What’s on the menu?
You can find me eating breakfast at the Celina Star Cafe.
What is one of the most memorable experiences you've had on patrol?
Assisting in saving someone's life is always most memorable to me. There is no better feeling knowing you played a part in helping someone live to see another day. As officers, we are never called on a "good day." Most of the time, we are called when things are at their worst for whoever needs our assistance. I try to remember this and be empathetic towards that person nad treat them with respect no matter what the outcome or situation.
If you had to describe Celina in one sentence, what would you say?
I'd say that Celina represents the best of what Texas is.
What are you most looking forward to in your time with Celina?
Making a positive impact in the community in as many ways as possible. This year, I'm located at Moore Middle School; the best way I can do that is to help lead these young kids in a positive and respectful manner.
What does a typical day off look like for you?
On my time off, I spend a lot of time at the gym, country dancing, or outdoor activites.
Cowboy hat or baseball cap?
Both. Depending on the occasion! I almost always have something on my head when I'm off duty.
Coffee order?
I like some coffee with my sugar.
A movie is being filmed about your life. Who is the star that plays YOU?
Gerard Butler. People tell me that I look like him all the time, and I agree. I've even been called Officer Butler.
Favorite sports team?
Dallas Cowboys and the Celina Bobcats!
Do you have a mentor or someone you look up to?
Matt Chandler, Paul Washer and Martin Luther King, Jr.
