The Celina Community Police Foundation, dedicated to enhancing community policing relationships in Celina, has received a donation of $10,000 in the name of Detective KC Robinson, who passed away in April of 2021. The anonymous donor made the contribution to the Foundation utilizing the National Philanthropic Trust.
“We are honored to receive this donation, which really helps to boost the support that the Foundation is giving to our community, and will let us plan some exciting offerings in the remainder of 2022 and beyond,” according to Foundation President Mathew Eberius.
The Foundation was established in 2021 after graduating members of the inaugural Citizen’s Police Academy saw a need to fill voids in police department funding; “We saw that we had a limited budget for community engagement citizen-involved trainings, so we wanted to step up and help. This included the initiation of our Volunteers in Policing (VIP) program, and the expansion of our Citizens Police Academy offerings,” says Eberius.
Detective Robinson was an instructor for the Citizens Police Academy, and his passing had a big effect on the relationships that the PD and Foundation built.
The charity officially received their 501(c)(3) status earlier this year, and has big plans for 2023, including expansion of the Citizens Police Academy, roll-out of the Volunteers in Policing (VIP) program, and further training in areas such as first aid, CPR and justice-related programs with Collin County.
“The goal is simple – we want to continue building those relationships between police and public. Growing up in a law enforcement family, I saw the police side and the public perception side. The Foundation is helping to bridge that and show our community who our police officers are, and building that trust. This will be super important as Celina continues to grow.”
