After positive comments on social media and a great showing of support with the Celina community, Christmas has arrived a few days early for the men and women of the Celina Police Department and has brought a new uniform item that has proven to be a popular addition to the Department.
The Celina Community Police Foundation announced today that the Foundation had sponsored black felt cowboy hats for the entire police department, adding to the already popular straw hat that was rolled out earlier this year.
"We had no idea the response we'd get when we started funding the straw cowboy hats earlier this year, and we felt that it was only right to keep the program going and roll out the felt hat for the winter, too," comments Mathew Eberius, the Foundation's President.
In 2022, the department added the straw cowboy hat to its allowed items as part of its official uniform. The Foundation's Board saw that as an opportunity to continue building community in Celina. "We saw selfies with officers, we saw amazing positive comments from the community on social media, and the cowboy hats helped the public see our officers as friends and neighbors first," Eberius says, "from there, we wanted to keep the program going, and through the community's support, we worked with Brad at McKinney Hat Company, and he supported helping us out. There's a pallet of hats waiting to go to our officers as we speak."
The Foundation presented a black cowboy hat to Chief John Cullison this week, officially announcing the program had been rolled out and surprising the team at Celina PD just days before Christmas.
The total value of the cowboy hat program throughout 2022 is around $10,000. Funds for this program were raised through private donations to the Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to enhancing, promoting, and funding community programs alongside the Celina Police Department.
